Men's Week 5 Volleyball
A pair of matches both Friday and Saturday
It’s Friday night Spike Night as men’s PACWEST volleyball opens Week 5 of the campaign with a pair of matches.
Camosun Chargers @ Douglas Royals – Friday November 15, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
For the first time this season the Chargers find themselves on the road when they visit the Royals at Douglas this weekend.
The Chargers are coming off a bye weekend but won two straight courtesy of a clean sweep just prior to the break. They have only lost once so far in this first half and are playing very good volleyball. Offensively Gabriel Spinelli has led the way with 54 kills to date and Edvard Adolfsen has collected 32.
The Royals are at home for the second straight weekend but were swept by the COTR Avalanche last week, both in four sets. They will look to right the ship starting Friday night against the visiting Chargers. Niko Robbles had led the way with 34 kills and Marvin Tumusiime out of the middle has 32.
These two will meet again on Saturday at 3:00pm.
CBC Bearcats @ VIU Mariners – Friday November 15, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
A pair of teams currently going in opposite directions, the Mariners have won three in a row while the Bearcats have dropped seven straight.
It’s been an interesting season for the Mariners so far. They opened the season with three straight losses but have turned it around and have won three straight and are coming off their bye week. Friday night will be a test for them to try and pick up that momentum once again despite not playing last weekend. Colby Soolsma who predominately came off the bench last year, is leading the Mariners offence with 53 kills to date.
The season started great for the Bearcats, winning their first match on the road in a sweep. Since then, however, they have stumbled and haven’t won again. Friday and Saturday are the last time they will see live action in 2024 and won’t play again until January 10th. They would like nothing more than to head into their extended break with a win.
These two schools will battle again on Saturday at 3:00pm.
