Chargers Open Title Defence
The host and two-time defending national champs meet the best from Ontario
Camosun Chargers vs. Humber Hawks – Thursday March 7, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
The host and two-time defending national champion Camosun Chargers open their title defence on Thursday in front of what should be a very ruckus crowd. They will meet the four-time Ontario champion the Humber Hawks out of Toronto in a quarterfinal.
The Chargers came up empty handed at the PACWEST championship two weeks ago but this young squad gained valuable experience in playing the VIU Mariners and COTR Avalanche in pressure packed situations. Those matches will no doubt set them up for this championship tournament.
Thursday night also marks the rematch of last years gold medal match that the Chargers won on the Hawks home floor. They clipped the Hawks in three-straight to win the title.
Speaking of the Hawks, they won their fourth straight OCAA title two weeks ago led by tournament MVP Marcus Morgan. He was outstanding during their playoff run adding to his impressive regular season in which he collected 135 kills. Complimenting him is Teyven Blackmore who the Chargers defence will also need to be aware of after his 112 kills.
The Chargers last hosted this event in 2018 falling in the bronze medal match. Since that loss they have appeared in two other national championship tournaments and haven’t lost a match, winning back-to-back golds in 2022 and 2023.
Following the match on Thursday night, the winner advances to play in a semi-final on Friday.
