The regular season comes to a close this weekend
Camosun Chargers @ Douglas Royals – Friday February 16, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
A pair of playoff teams clash this weekend at Douglas when the Chargers visit the Royals.
Although they won’t see each other in a semi-final next week both schools want to enter the playoffs on the right foot with momentum.
The Chargers sit in a second-place tie with the VIU Mariners, the team they will face in next week’s semi-final. They are starting to heat up at the right time, winning six straight, four courtesy of a three-set sweep. They are 4-4 away from PISE and play their first road match in nearly a month. Back in November when they hosted the Royals they earned a weekend sweep; however, it was a pair of very competitive matches winning in four and five sets respectively. In both cases they won the first two sets before the Royals came roaring back.
The Royals are well rested after their bye weekend and are at home the rest of the way, this weekend then the following weekend to host the PACWEST championship tournament. Prior to their bye they had won four straight, three of them with a three-set sweep. They are 6-2 at home this season and will look to build momentum heading into their semi-final date with the top ranked COTR Avalanche.
Saturday afternoon the Chargers and Royals meet for the regular season finale at 3:00pm | WATCH HERE
Capilano Blues @ COTR Avalanche – Friday February 16, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
The top team in the country, the COTR Avalanche host the Capilano Blues this weekend prior to making their way to the lower mainland for the PACWEST championship. Regardless of what happens this weekend, they are the top seed heading into the playoffs and will meet Douglas in a semi-final.
The Avs are coming off a bye weekend and had won three straight prior to their break. They are an impressive 7-1 at home this season and are hoping to make quick work of the Blues. Back in November at Capilano the Blues pushed them to five sets in both matches as they needed to come back to win the fourth set to force a fifth and would eventually win. The Blues will be no cake walk.
Speaking of the Blues they have long since been eliminated from postseason action and are playing for pride. The results from this weekend have no barring on the standings, but can help the transition into the offseason. They have lost seven straight and are 0-4 in matches that go to a fifth set.
The Avalanche and Blues will conclude the regular season on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm MST | WATCH HERE
CBC Bearcats @ VIU Mariners – Friday February 16, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Mariners and Bearcats will wrap up their regular season schedule this weekend in Nanaimo. The Mariners are headed to the playoffs, while the Bearcats season will come to an end.
Coming into the weekend the Mariners are tied for second place with the Camosun Chargers, the team they will face in a semi-final regardless of the results from this weekend. They will meet next week at Douglas in the PACWEST championship tournament.
First however they will host the Bearcats this weekend, a team they beat in three and four sets respectively back in November at CBC. The Mariners have won two in a row and would love nothing but to have a winning momentum heading into the postseason.
The Bearcats won’t just roll over. Despite being eliminated from the championship tournament they played the Chargers tough last weekend and are expected to do the same in their season finale.
These two schools will play their regular season finales on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm | WATCH HERE
