Chargers Go For Gold
The Camosun Chargers look to win their second ever national title
Camosun Chargers vs. Cegep Limoilou Titans – Sunday March 27, 5:00pm PST | WATCH HERE
The Camosun Chargers are making their first appearance in the CCAA national gold medal match since winning the title in 2015. Their opponent is the exact same team they beat that year in five-sets, the Cegep Limoilou Titans.
The path to this title match has been a pair of sweeps for the PACWEST champs. In Friday’s quarterfinal they swept the OCAA wildcard team the Redeemer Royals, then swept the ACAA champion St. Thomas Tommies in yesterday’s semi-final. The Brazilian connection of Vitor Pereira and Eduardo Bida have led the way offensively but it’s been a complete team effort with several players contributing including Lorenz Vogel who was named Friday’s Player of the Match.
On the other side the host Titans have had a more difficult path to the gold medal match. They held on to beat the Red Deer Kings in Friday’s quarterfinal, winning the first two sets, then losing a pair before taking the fifth and deciding set 15-10. Saturday’s semi-final against the OCAA champion Humber Hawks was even more difficult after losing the first two sets, they came roaring back to win the next three including the fifth set 15-10 to advance. The last time the Titans won national gold was in 2018, when the tournament was hosted at Camosun.
It has been a great run by the Chargers who are three-sets away from capturing their second ever national gold medal and send head coach Charles Parkinson into retirement with a storybook ending.
