The PACWEST champion Camosun Chargers are the first scheduled match at the CCAA national championship on Friday in Quebec City.
The Chargers face the wildcard team from the Ontario Conference, the Redeemer Royals from Ancaster. It has been almost a month since the Chargers saw live action, coming back to win the PACWEST title in a thrilling five-set victory over the VIU Mariners. The Chargers are making their first appearance at the nationals since they hosted the championship tournament in 2018 when they finished fourth. Their last national medal was a gold in 2015 when the tournament was hosted in PEI.
The Royals are making their first ever appearance at the national championship but are coming off a loss to the Humber Hawks in the Ontario gold medal match.
They were swept by the Hawks after winning their semi-final in four sets. During the regular season the Royals finished with a record of 8-1.
The winner moves onto a national semi-final on Saturday, while the loser will play in a bronze medal quarterfinal.
