As a rookie in the PACWEST last season with the top ranked Douglas Royals, Matt Shand earned significant playing time.
He played in 50 of the Royals sets during the regular season. He collected 135 kills, had 19 service aces, 54 digs and eight blocks. Then in the playoffs he was a big factor collecting 35 kills including 22 in the PACWEST bronze medal match on route to a victory and was named the Player of the Match.
Now going into his second year, Matt along with his older brother Ben will be looked upon to account for major offensive numbers following the departure of the PACWEST Player of the Year Max Haronga.
Classes at Douglas College have resumed, but Shand still finds himself at home with distance learning, something he talks about with Ryan Watters. Like most PACWEST student athletes, Shand is itching to get back on the floor and live action.
