Chargers and Avs in another 5 set Match
The Chargers and Avs returned to the court this afternoon with the same intensity and competitiveness that they displayed the night before. In another 5 set marathon match, the Chargers were able to come out on top. With the Douglas Royals nipping at their heels in the standings, every win for Camosun was essential if the wanted to remain at the top of the standings. The Avs, already secured a playoff spot, was treating every match as a learning experience as they prepare for the playoffs in a few weeks.
Camosun started out strong taking the 1st set 25-15 and the Avs responded with 25-22 and 25-21 wins of their own to go up 2-1. Not to be outdone, the Chargers replied taking the 4th set 25-20 setting up another 5th set confrontation. Not wanting to be swept at home, the Avs put up a valient effort but the Chargers were not to be denied as they closed out the match with a 15-12 set win.
"After a terrible opening set the men settled in and passed much better allowing us to at least keep up to the Camosun team offensively. Camosun played a different unit on Saturday and I don’t think we were mentally and physically ready for the challenge." commented Avs head coach Swanson. "As in our previous match we came down to a fifth and deciding set and despite having a much better start we were not able to make the stops necessary and lost 15-12. A great effort however in both matches."
