Avs Down the Royals in Five
The COTR Avs patiently waited for the Douglas Royals to come to town Friday night. Sitting idle last weekend, the Royals were eager and ready to get back to PACWEST action. The Avs, having won both their matches last weekend were also eager to get back on the court.
In a five set battle, the host Avs were looking to extend their meager winning streak to three matches. They did not disappoint the home crowd and they earned their victory tonight in an exciting match. Douglas came out strong taking the 1st set 25-16. The Avs returned the favour in the 2nd taking it 25-13. The Royals pushed back and took the 3rd 25-22. Looking to finish out the match, Douglas and COTR battled for every point in the 4th set. COTR would squeek out the win 29-27 to tie the match at 2. The 5th and final set saw the host Avs secure the victory with a 15-8 set win.
"Our men showed alot of grit and maturity tonight as we played a very poor opening set however battled back with much improved defense to win in the 5th set over Douglas College. I was proud of our guys for having them stay with our game plan throughout the entire match" commented Avs head coach John Swanson.
Both team are back in action Saturday afternoon at 3 pm.
