Entering the fourth weekend of play in the men’s division, the Douglas Royals sat on top of the standings with 12 points and the Camosun Chargers at 8 points. In a battle between PACWEST powerhouses, the Royals made their way to the Victoria for their first Island trip of the season.
The men’s match was a hard-hitting battle with the home team taking it in four sets with scores of 25-17, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22. Camosun’s third-year leftside Haakon Ostrem (Norway) made a massive contribution of 27 offensive points (22 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces) and 12 digs! PACWEST Athlete of the Week, Savana Walkingbear (Turtleford, SK), was also in the double digits with 14 kills, 1 block and 9 digs. Third-year Charger Rian Plante (Comox, BC) made an impressive 6 kills, 2 blocks and 17 digs.
The win for the Chargers closed the gap between the two squads and broke Douglas’ undefeated streak. The rematch is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
