SATURDAY
Douglas Royals @ Langara Falcons – Saturday October 19, 2:30pm | WATCH HERE
If the playoffs started today the Falcons would clinch the top seed while the Royals would be watching from home, however with two games still to go plenty can happen.
Just before the Thanksgiving bye the Falcons swept the weekend and have won three of their last four overall. In their first two meetings with the Royals this season they have won both outscoring them 5-0. They currently are in first place in the standings and with one more win they would clinch the top seed and advance into the Conference gold medal game.
The Royals are on the outside looking in but are only two-points out of the final playoff spot. They have played well as of late and are unbeaten in their last four games. This weekend however they need to win rather than finishing with a draw as they need the points to catch the VIU Mariners in third place.
These two teams will meet again on Sunday to conclude the regular season however the venue switches to Douglas and the home of the Royals.
Capilano Blues @ VIU Mariners – Saturday October 19, 3:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Blues and Mariners meet this weekend with just five points separating them in the standings. This is also a potential playoff match-up in a PACWEST semi-final.
They’ve met twice this year and split their weekend, each claiming a victory with the Mariners outscoring the Blues 4-2.
Looking at the standings, the Blues sit in second place and are coming off a draw and a loss heading into the Thanksgiving bye weekend. They have the Conference’s leading scorer in Sebastian Cirotto who has seven of the team’s 13 goals, but they still would like to see some secondary scoring.
The Marines come into this final weekend looking to get back into the win column after going winless in their last four games. They have finished with a pair of draws during this stretch, but need a win and the extra points to hold off a surging Douglas Royals team, now just two points back. Like the Blues the Mariners need some more scoring options after the four scored by Charlie Smith to lead their team.
These two will play each other on Sunday afternoon in Nanaimo as the regular season closes.
