Throughout the game, the Mariners controlled most of the play, but the Falcons did find their legs in the late stages trying to complete the comeback. Taigo Shimada scored in the 80th minute, but that’s as close as they would come in game.
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 8
Douglas Royals 4
Capilano Blues 2
After getting upset and shutout on Saturday, the defending national champion Royals opened the floodgates on Sunday scoring four times in their home opener.
Rookie Luciano Keramen scored in the 21st minute to get the Royals on the board for the first time this season. That was all the scoring in the first half…the second half was quite a bit different.
Veteran Matteo Falcone tallied his first of the season in the 48th minute just as the teams were getting loose again after halftime. In the 59th minute Justin Pena, now in his fourth season, scored the eventual game winner giving the Royals a 3-0 lead.
The Blues finally found an answer with two quick goals to pull within one, just a minute apart. First in the 68th minute Sebastian Cirotto scored his second in as many days getting the Blues on the board. Then a minute later Kaden Routley scored again cutting the lead to one, but that’s as close as they would come. In the 78th minute Falcone got his second of the game restoring the Royals two-goal advantage.
The teams earned a split on the weekend.

The Mariners didn’t have much push back as keeper Adriel Agcooili made two saves in the victory.
