Explosive Second Half Leads Mariners
The VIU Mariners are the national bronze medalists
The VIU Mariners used an explosive second half to win the national bronze medal on Sunday with a 109-100 victory over the St. Clair Saints.
After being down 58-39 at the half, the Mariners came out with an incredible third quarter outscoring the Saints 35-17 shooting a blistering 63.6% in the frame bringing the score to within one. They continued their outstanding shooting in the fourth at 61.9% and outscored their opponents 35-25 to claim the victory.
For the game the Mariners shot 53% with Landon Radliff catching fire hitting five-three pointers, scoring a team high 31 points and was named the Player of the Game. Akoi Yuot was brilliant with 30 points and 15 rebounds while Richard Henderson knocked down 27 and grabbed 13 boards.
It’s the Mariners second national medal in the last three playing seasons after winning gold in 2019. It’s their fifth national medal since 2011, last winning bronze in that year. Richard Henderson was named a tournament All-Star averaging a double-double.
