The Mariners will play for a national bronze medal on Sunday afternoon in their final game of the season. They will face the high-flying OCAA champion St. Clair Saints from Windsor.
Saturday the Mariners knocked off the George Brown Huskies 91-85 to advance to the bronze game. They shot 46.5% in the contest but struggled from downtown at 19%. Akoi Yuot took the game over finishing with a game high 38 points and snagged 15 rebounds and earned the Player of the Game honours. Landon Radliff was outstanding with 18 points and Richard Henderson recorded yet another double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
They will take on a Saints team that downed the Capilano Blues 120-92 connecting on a mind-blogging 21-three pointers on 44 attempts on Saturday. Overall, they shot 55% led by Jesiah Deerr who hit nine of those 21-three pointers and finished with 34 points.
They average over 98 points a game and can score in bunches. The Mariners’ defence will need to play a major factor because a high-scoring shootout will favour the Saints on Sunday.
The Mariners’ last national was a gold in 2019, while the Saints won silver last year.
