The PACWEST champion Blues had their double-gold dreams come to an end on Thursday in a heartbreaker, falling to the George Brown Huskies 120-113 in overtime.
It was arguably the most exciting game of the day with several lead changes and the game in doubt right down to the last second. With the Blues trailing by three and time ticking away they found Josh Dhillon set-up in the corner who knocked down a buzzer beating three-pointer to force overtime.
Unfortunately, the Blues lost momentum when the extra session began as the Huskies opened with a 6-0 run which proved to much for the PACWEST champs. Dhillon led the offence with 24 points, Zach Kim dropped in 23 while Tyrone Asenoguan added 16 and six boards.
They now face the ACAA champion Holland Hurricanes from PEI who also lost in their opening round game 90-69 to the ACAC champion SAIT Trojans. They shot 34% in the loss and Kyree Thompson led his club with 22 points. The Hurricanes finished 13-5 in the regular season and cruised through the Conference playoffs winning the gold with a 97-78 victory over the STU Tommies. They can score points in a hurry averaging 99 a game during the regular campaign.
With a win the Blues would advance to the bronze medal semi-final.
