The Royals & Mariners Get The Dub
A pair of one-goal games highlighted Sunday's men's soccer action
Douglas Royals 3
Langara Falcons 2
The defending PACWEST champion Royals handed the Falcons their first loss of the season after a wild second half in which three goals were scored.
In the first half Taku Ota gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute but it didn’t last long. The Royals countered just five minutes later when Matteo Falcone scored to tie it at one. That was all the scoring in the first half as the defences and keepers seemed sharp.
Then in the second half “business picked up” as they say. First the Falcons broke the tie in the 60th minute as Athos Michellepis de Siqueira scored his second of the weekend, but again the lead didn’t last long. Zachari Ouariti-Zerouali tied it again for the Royals just a minute later with his second of the weekend. Then with time winding down Riku Suga scored for the Royals in the 85th minute securing the victory, their second of the season. It was also his second tally of the weekend.
Keeper Jacob McCall made three saves in the win while Blake Charlesworth made five stops for the Falcons in the setback.
This coming Wednesday night The Falcons (3-1-1) will host the Capilano Blues (0-4-2) in a rare mid-week contest. The Royals (2-0-3) meanwhile will play again on Saturday afternoon when they host the VIU Mariners (2-2-2).

After just one goal in the first half, the flood gates opened in the second with a total of four goals in a Mariners victory on Sunday afternoon.
The visiting Mariners scored the first goal just before halftime when Ori Fisher tallied in the 44th minute giving his squad a one goal lead at the break.
Six minutes into the second half a switch was turned, and goals came fast and furious. In the 51st minute Vasilis Bagiopoulos scored to give the Mariners a two-goal advantage, then added his second of the day just a minute later in the 52nd minute and the visitors looked to be in control.
However, a minute after that Adam Majuerae crashed hard to the net and snuck a shot past the Mariners keeper to get his club on the board. In the 86th minute with the Blues pressing Luca Martinelli scored to cut the lead to one, however that’s as close as the home side would make it.
Mariners’ keeper Matteo Chirico made two saves in the win.
Week 4 of the PACWEST season opens on a rare Wednesday night when the Blues (0-4-2) pay a visit to the first place Langara Falcons (3-1-1). Then on Saturday the Mariners (2-2-2) visit the Douglas Royals (2-0-3).
