Royals Tripped Up
The Douglas Royals win a CCAA National Silver Medal on Saturday
The Douglas Royals fought hard on Saturday pushing for a goal in the CCAA national championship game, but were tripped up by the Humber Hawks 1-0 and leave Calgary with a silver medal.
The Royals had their chances but the Hawks defence in particular along with their keeper were equal to the test to shutout the PACWEST champs.
The lone goal was scored in the 10th minute off the foot of striker Exosse Kadiebue, getting the shot past the Royals’ keeper Jacob McCall. Following that goal both defences went to work and didn’t allow much. McCall was even called upon to make a couple of brilliant saves, one of which was made by his face.
When the final whistle sounded the Royals captured a national silver medal, repeating their performance of 2017. Mohamedhur Ibrahim was named the Player of the Game and received his token cowboy hat.
Following the game both Ryosuke Sudo and Burhan Waisy were named championship All-Stars.
