The Douglas Royals open the CCAA championship with a clean sheet on Wednesday night
The Douglas Royals opened the CCAA national championship on Wednesday with a convincing 3-0 victory over the George Brown Huskies in the quarterfinals.
After a scoreless, but very physical opening 45 minutes, the Royals finally got on the board in the 55th when Mohamednur Ibrahim scored. The goal would turn out to be the game winner.
The PACWEST champs added some insurance in the 74th minute when Rozmehr Aghabaygy took a shot from outside the box the handcuffed the Huskies keeper into the back of the net. The goal came after both teams traded some hard tackles, increasing the physical play.
The Royals would ice the game in the 85th minute when Duncan Bates redirected a beautiful pass from Ayman Shamuddeen into the open net.
Keeper Jacob McCall made two saves for the clean sheet and helped propel the Royals into the semi-final where they will face the St. Thomas Tommies on Thursday.
