It's the final Saturday of the PACWEST regular season
VIU Mariners (4-2-1) @ Douglas Royals (4-3) – Saturday October 23, 3:30pm – Cunnings Field | WATCH HERE
It’s a battle for first place as the Mariners and Royals meet for the final time this season with just one point separating the two teams in the standings.
The Royals are the hottest team in the PACWEST winners of four straight including a 1-0 shutout of the Mariners on October 3rd. During this streak they have outscored their opposition 12-2 with a pair of shutouts.
The Mariners meanwhile played a rescheduled game on Wednesday and beat the Capilano Blues for their first win of the month. They have beaten the Royals this season, a 3-2 victory on September 25th which oddly enough was the last time the Royals lost. So not only first place on the line on Saturday, but it’s also the seasonal series rubber match.
Where the Mariners have had three different scores in the series, the Royals have had a pair from Yianni Siafakas.
Langara Falcons (3-3-1) @ Capilano Blues (2-5) – Saturday October 23, 7:00pm – Ken Woods Field @ UBC | WATCH HERE
With the PACWEST standings so tight, this is an important match-up for both teams. The Falcons are just three points out of first place, while the Blues are four points out of the final playoff spot and six points out of second place.
This is the final meeting of the regular season between these two schools and is the seasonal series rubber match. The Falcons won the last meeting 2-0 on October 3rd when David Rodriguez and Athos Michellepis de Siqueira each scored and Aleks Kalajdzic earned the shutout with four saves. In their first meeting however back on September 25th Jeremy Monn-Djasngar scored twice in a Blues 3-1 victory.
Coming into this weekend the Falcons have two straight shutouts, thanks to Kalajdzic, blanking the Mariners last weekend 3-0 and that 2-0 victory over the Blues on October 3rd. The Blues meanwhile have lost five straight including the rescheduled game on Wednesday afternoon.
