The Falcons played a near perfect game on Sunday and upset the Mariners in Nanaimo for their second straight shutout win. With the victory the Falcons move into a second place tie with the Mariners as both teams have 10 points.
Moheealdeen Alyousef scored the lone first half goal in the 22nd minute giving the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. It was his first tally of the season.
The score stayed that way as both teams had their chances until the 82nd minute when Wizaso Chavula scored his first of the season putting the game out of reach late. Yuto Kimura added one more goal in extra time and the visitors left with a very important victory.
Keeper Aleks Kalajdzic earned the clean sheet making four saves in the contest.
Douglas Royals 4
Capiiano Blues 1
The rainout on Saturday and the Thanksgiving bye week had no effect on the red hot Royals who win their fourth straight with a convincing win over the Blues.
The game remained scoreless for most of the first half, until the Royals exploded for a pair of goals just before halftime. Quinn Desaulniers opened the flood gates in the 41st minute, followed by Ryosuke Supo three minutes later with his third of the year, a goal that would turn out to be the game winner.
Immediately out of halftime Mattoe Falcone scored in the 46th minute to give the home side a very comfortable three-goal advantage.
The Blues finally broke the shutout bid when Merlin Fisk scored in the 83rd minute, getting a ball past keeper Jacob McCall.
In extra time Euale Yosef scored for the Royals restoring their three goal advantage.
The Royals victory coupled with the Mariners loss means the Royals now leapfrog into first place with 12 points but the Mariners do have a game in hand. The two teams will face each other on Saturday.
