PACWEST At Home - Larry Stefanek
The head coach of the VIU Mariners talks about the season from home
The VIU Mariners men’s soccer team was one win away from capturing the CCAA national gold medal last season, but fell 3-2 to the Durham Lords in the CCAA title match.
During the regular campaign the Mariners were the PACWEST’s top team with a 7-3-2 record and received a bye into the Conference gold medal tilt. They struggled in that title game and fell 1-0 to the champion Douglas Royals. However despite the loss they still entered the CCAA championship tournament as a wildcard berth. They caught fire beating the Lethbridge Kodiaks, and then the Humber Hawks in penalty kicks to advance to the gold medal game against Durham.
For the previous two seasons the man at the top of the team has been head coach Larry Stefanek who talks with Ryan Watters from home about this very strange 2020 season.
