Blues Meet Huskies
The Capilano Blues will try to end the season with a victory in the Placement Game
Capilano Blues vs. Keyano Huskies – Friday March 14, 11:00am PST | PLACEMENT GAME
It’s not the game the PACWEST champion Blues were hoping to be in, however they get an opportunity to end their season with a win on the national stage on Friday morning.
They will meet the wildcard from the ACAC, the Keyano Huskies who have lost three straight games dating back to the Alberta Conference gold medal game.
The Blues are coming off a disappointing 77-69 bronze quarterfinal loss to the Briercrest Clippers on Thursday. They shot 32% from the field but struggled from the three-point line connecting on 22%. Kash Lang led the Blues offensively with 17 points and David Featherson Jr tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ahmad Athman was named the Player of the Game with 13 points and played outstanding defence. The setback is their second straight after losing their opening game of the tournament as well.
Despite the pair of losses, they can still finish the season with a win as they play for the final time on Friday morning.
Like the Blues, the Huskies have lost both their games this week. Their latest was a 76-75 heartbreaker in overtime in the bronze medal quarterfinal on Thursday at the hands of the UNBSJ Seawolves from New Brunswick. They shot 31% with two players doing most of the damage. The Blues will need to know where Omeechi Williams and Keenan Miller are after they combined for 41 of their 75 points in the loss.
During the regular season the Huskies were 17-3 averaging 84 points a game. Oddly enough, they were beaten in the ACAC title game by the Clippers, the same team the Blues lost to on Thursday.
Regardless of the outcome of this game, both teams will end their season.
