Blues Bronze Medal Quarterfinal
The Capilano Blues look for a bounce back game on Thursday afternoon
Caplano Blues vs. Briercrest Clippers – Thursday March 13, 12:00pm PST | BRONZE QUARTERFINAL
The PACWEST champion Blues let one slip away on Wednesday night as they opened the CCAA national championship tournament with an 86-81 loss to the Humber Hawks after leading by 11 points in the second half. They will use this let down as motivation as they move over to the bronze side of the bracket going forward.
Against the Hawks they shot 43% against led by Arshya Ghasemi and his 21 points on the strength of four-three pointers. Kash Lang was named Player of the Game with 17 points and seven rebounds while David Featherston Jr added 14 points but wasn’t able to connect with an important field goal in the late stages of the contest.
They will meet the ACAC champion Clippers who are making the school’s first ever trip to the CCAA national championship. They dropped their quarterfinal game to the host Vanier Cheetahs 83-73 to move to the bronze medal side of the bracket. They shot 33% from the field but only 19% from the three-point line attempting 26 shots from behind the arc. The Blues will need to keep an eye on Jude Shepherd-Hills who led their team with 24 points in the loss.
During the regular season the Clippers showed they can score in a hurry and finished 19-1 averaging 90 points a game and shot 48% from the field. Five players averaged double figures led by Shepherd-Hills who tallied 16.7 points per game. He will no doubt get very familiar with Damein Coleman of the Blues, the PACWEST Defensive Player of the Year.
The winner of this game advances to the bronze medal semi-final on Friday while the loser will have one more game in the Placement Match, also on Friday.
