The Capilano Blues face the Humber Hawks to tip off the national championship
Capilano Blues vs. Humber Hawks – Friday March 12, 5:30pm PST | QUARTERFINAL
The PACWEST champion Blues open the CCAA national championship tournament on Wednesday night in Montreal when they meet the Ontario wildcard team, the Hawks from Toronto.
It was two weeks ago when the Blues captured an emotional PACWEST title after beating both the first and second seeds to earn a berth in this national championship. Not only did they get the points they needed offensively, but their defence was simply outstanding, something that will need to continue this week in Quebec.
During the regular season, the Blues scored over 78 points and shot 43% from the field led by Kash Lang who dropped over 15 points a game. Damein Colemen was the catalyst on the defensive side and will no doubt match up against their opponent’s best player all weekend long.
The Hawks come into the nationals having lost the Ontario Conference title game by six points to the Durham Lords but are a wildcard berth. This loss is the only setback the Hawks suffered all season after running the table during the regular campaign. They average 88 points a game and shoot 44% led by Malik Grant and his 16 points a game.
The winner of this game will play in a semi-final on Thursday while the loser moves to the bronze side of the bracket and will play in a bronze medal quarterfinal.
