Men's Basketball Preview - Week 13
A full schedule of games will span three days this wekeend
Douglas Royals @ CBC Bearcats – Thursday February 13, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
Even though both teams know they are playoff bound both the Bearcats and Royals are still jockeying for positioning in the standings with eight points separating these two.
The Bearcats (10-12) hold down the fourth spot in the standings, two points back of Capilano for third, and are two points up on the fifth place Langara Falcons. They have won three straight and have hit their stride trying to finish strong with only two games remaining on their schedule. Against the Royals in November, they lost the first game by 12 points but then bounced back the next day, winning by eight.
The Royals (6-14) still have four games left and are looking to move up from the sixth spot in the standings. After starting the new year off with a pair of wins, they have dropped their last six and find themselves on the road for the last time. If they want to move up the standings, they need to win their final four games and get some help along the way.
Both teams will have Friday off, then meet each other for the final time on Saturday night at 8:00pm.
Langara Falcons @ Camosun Chargers – Friday February 14, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
Both teams have plenty to play for this weekend as they meet for a doubleheader.
With a win, the Chargers (15-5) would clinch the second seed and ultimately receive a bye into the PACWEST semi-finals at the championship tournament in two and a half weeks. They have won two straight and are at home for the final time this season. In November, they swept the Falcons at Langara winning by 18 and 11 points respectively and are looking to recapture that momentum this weekend. Overall, this season they are shooting 40% from the field and averaging 77-points a game.
Despite trailing the Chargers by 12 points in the standings, the Falcons (9-11) are averaging more points per game, albeit by a slim margin at 78.1 a game. As a club, they are shooting 41.5% from the field and 32% from the three-point line. They have won four of their last six games and will be on the road for the last time this year as they try and chase down the fourth place CBC Bearcats, a team they could meet in a quarterfinal.
The Chargers and Falcons meet again on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.
Capilano Blues @ Okanagan Coyotes – Friday February 14, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Blues (11-9) and Coyotes (1-19) meet for the final time this season for a weekend doubleheader in Kelowna beginning on Friday night.
In their first weekend together in November, the Blues won both matchups, winning the first game by 22 points, but just hung on the next day winning by four.
Coming into the weekend the Blues sit in third place, eight points back of the second seed in the standings. They still have a chance of capturing that seed, but they need to beat the Coyotes this weekend, then sweep the Camosun Chargers the following weekend and that still might not be enough. Not only are they looking at chasing the Chargers, but they also need to keep an eye behind them as well because the CBC Bearcats are just two points back sitting in fourth. That said, the Blues have two games in hand and have won two of their last three games.
The Coyotes have four games left in their season and are at home for the final time this year, hoping to give the hometown fans something to cheer about. They have played in some very tight games this season but haven’t been able to knockdown a timely shot or get a defensive stop at a critical time. This weekend they play for pride and try to play the spoiler card against the Blues.
Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm these two schools will meet for the last time.
