Camosun Chargers 75
Okanagan Coyotes 44
It was second half adjustments by the Chargers that allowed them to pull away and earn the weekend sweep. The margin was just eight points at the half before the Chargers outscored the Coyotes 24-9 in the third quarter and never looked back.
As a team they shot 34% from the field with Malachi Bryden netting a game high 19 points and Izzy Helman finished with 17 points and 10 boards.
Their stifling defence held the Coyotes to just 21% shooting and forced 19 turnovers.
One of the bright spots for the visitors was the play of Manny Biden who finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds and was the only Coyote to reach the double-digit plateau.
Next weekend the Chargers (11-3) visit the top ranked VIU Mariners (14-0) and the Coyotes (1-13) meet the Langara Falcons (5-9) in Vancouver.
Douglas Royals 76
Langara Falcons 73
It was a great road weekend for the Royals, climbing the standings with a sweep at Langara after their three-point win on Saturday.
This was a game with plenty of momentum shifts with the Royals recording a gritty road victory. They would shoot 50% from the field and outscored the home side 24-17 in the final frame in the win. Kai Bohmert had a game high 17 points but everyone on the Royals roster contributed as four of the five starters hit double figures.
The Falcons had the lead heading into the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold off the visitors. As a team they shot 41% with Owen Jones finishing with the game’s lone double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Patrick Robinson came off the bench and also tallied 14 points.
Next weekend the Royals (6-8) will enjoy the bye week, and the Falcons (5-9) welcome the Okanagan Coyotes (1-13).
