A pair of Conference champs will go head-to-head in the CCAA national Placement Game on Friday morning when the PACWEST champion Mariners meet the ACAA champion Mystics.
The Mariners have played two very strong games at the nationals falling in a heartbreaker on Wednesday 70-69 to the George Brown Huskies, then suffered a 90-79 defeat at the hands of the RSEQ champion Vanier Cheetahs yesterday. Jakob Poulton played his best game in a Mariners uniform on Thursday dropping 28-points and was named Player of the Game coming off the bench.
Like the Mariners the Mystics have lost their first two games at the championship tournament as well. In their quarterfinal on Wednesday they were blown out by the Humber Hawks 104-57, then lost to the Camosun Chargers in a thriller on Thursday 58-56. They are the ACAA champions from Halifax after a pair of upsets in their Conference postseason but that momentum has not carried over.
Both teams will need to shake off their disappointment and try to get dialed in for this game, their final contest of the season. The winner will finish seventh in the nation, while the loser will capture the eighth spot.
The last time these two schools met was in the 2011 bronze medal game that the Mariners won 73-71. Andrew Kaban of the Mariners was named a First Team tournament All-Star that year.
