Road Teams Prevail
The Mariners and Royals opened the season with a road win on Friday night

The defending champion Mariners put together a strong second half to win their PACWEST opener on Friday night on the road in Victoria. As a club they shot 37% from the field led by their speedy guard Tori Odom who had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Landon Radliff returned to the Mariners and connected on 14 points and Richard Henderson added 12.
The Chargers did not shoot the ball well on Friday night at 28% from the field with only one player hitting the double-digit mark. David Finch scored 19 points in the loss while Noah Helman came off the bench for nine. All-Canadian Takeshi Croke had a great defensive game picking up 10 rebounds, but offensively he struggled shooting 1 of 12 for four points.

It was the highest scoring game of Week 1 with the Royals outscoring the hometown Falcons 26-18 in the final quarter to pick up the road win. They shot 45% from the field as Corez Johnson exploded for 33 points and had seven rebounds. Jeevan Sidhu in his Royals debut dropped 20 points and snagged nine rebounds. As a team the Royals had balanced scoring with seven players hitting the score sheet.
The Falcons let one slip away as they had trouble containing the Royals in the final frame. All-in-all they shot 37% from the field with nine players contributing. Moeiz Athaya in his PACWEST return scored a team high 27 points and Nicholas LaFontaine came off the bench to add 15 to give them a spark.
