Hello Mr. Anderson
Courtney Anderson of the Douglas Royals is named the men's Athlete of the Year across all sports
The PACWEST is pleased to announce Courtney Anderson of the Douglas Royals as the Male Athlete of the Year across all sports.
In the regular season Anderson was the spark plug for the Royals averaging a team high 18.9 points a game. From the field the Texan shot 44.6% and was among the team leaders with 68 assists, shot 89% from the free throw line and averaged 5.1 rebounds each game.
Following the regular season Anderson was named a First Team All-Star and was announced as the Player of the Year as he helped his Royals to the top seed heading into the PACWEST championship tournament. “His ability to score the ball and play ball defence really set the tone for our team this season,” said head coach Joe Enevoldson. “In his second season with us his intensity level and focus game to game took a huge jump between last year and this year as he became a more rounded player and more importantly teammate.”
In the playoffs Anderson seemed to raise his game even more averaging 23 points, nine boards and 5.5 assists in their two wins. In the gold medal game he scored 26 of his tournament points and was 6-6 from the free throw line down the stretch. He was the named the Player of the Game.
Unfortunately the Royals didn’t get a chance to play for the CCAA gold medal due to the cancellation of the tournament because of the COVID 19 virus. Despite that Anderson was named a CCAA All-Canadian as described as “a complete student-athlete who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities. Anderson is always personable and appreciative and has quickly become a favourite among his peers on campus. His determination, perseverance and work ethic are a testament to his well-deserved achievements.”
He becomes the first Royals men’s basketball player to win this PACWEST award since 2008 when William McNutt was honoured.
