Men's Basketball Rewind - Week 3
Check the PACWEST Rewind
This past weekend all seven PACWEST basketball schools played a pair of games and headed into the exam break. Here’s the rewind:
THURSDAY
Douglas Royals 93
Capilano Blues 73
The Royals came out flying outscoring the Blues 26-10 in the first quarter and set the tone very early. They shot 48% over the course of the game led by the 21 points from Tyrone Asenoguan. Meanwhile Josiah Mastandrea dropped in 15 points, including three-three pointers. Dylan Kinley came off the bench and chipped in with 14.
The Blues shot 34% from the field and four of their five starters hit the double-digit mark. Denver Sparks-Guest and Brendan Bailey each dropped in 15 points.
FRIDAY
VIU Mariners 103
Langara Falcons 83
After a tied first quarter the Mariners exploded for 30 points in the second frame and never looked back. They would shoot 52% overall and four of their five starters hit double-digits led by the game high of 30 points from Tyus Barfoot, who also grabbed 11 rebounds. Harry Fayle knocked down 17 points and Cameron Gay was good for 14.
The Falcons offence was also solid shooting 54% from the field, however their 25 turnovers hurt them dearly. Antonio Jhuty was outstanding knocking down 10 of 18 shots and tallied 29 points. Nishad Tarak chipped in with four-three pointers and 14 points.

Okanagan Coyotes 70
For the second straight night the Royals erupted in the first quarter setting the tone early with 32 points. They then shut down the Coyotes in the second frame allowing just nine points. Offensively they shot 52% from the field as both Tyrone Asenoguan and Courtney Anderson each scored 24 points. Gurkirat Kular came off the bench and dropped in 17 points.
Other than the second quarter the Coyotes offence had a great night. They shot 38% from the field led by Derrian Valdes and his 22 points. Davide Ciancio came off the bench for 15 points.
Camosun Chargers 96
CBC Bearcats 76
The Chargers shot 48% from the field as each player on the roster hit the scoresheet. Ty Cleland led the way with a game high 25 points, nailing five-three pointers. Shaquille Maharaj also hit the 20 point plateau with 21.
The Bearcats offence shot 40% from the field led by the 21 points from Gabe Mannes. Braxton Latt recorded a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
SATURDAY
Langara Falcons 105
Camosun Chargers 103
The Falcons came roaring back despite getting outscored 33-18 in the first quarter. They caught fire and shot 53% from the field and 48% from downtown. Antonio Jhuty had an incredible game scoring 39 points, hitting three-three pointers and was 10 of 13 from the free throw line. Grant Galbraith recorded a double-double of 22 points and 10 boards. Moeiz Athaya added 19.
The Chargers on the other hand shot 44% from the field and hit 14-three pointers. Both Matthew Gray and Dallas Hancox led the offence with 29 points. Hancox also grabbed 12 rebounds and Gray hit seven-three pointers.
Capilano Blues 126
Okanagan Coyotes 117
The offences exploded today combining for the most points scored this season. The Blues shot 53% led by the 53 points of Denver Sparks-Guest, second most points all-time in a single PACWEST game. The record is held by Ray Branch who scored 56 points for Selkirk College in 1987. Sparks-Guest hit 20 field goals and was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 12 rebounds. CJ Campbell also had a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists.
The Coyotes offence was also great shooting 52% from the field. Derrian Valdes hit five-three pointers and ended with 22 points. Jeff Tubbs added 19 and Hunter Hughes had 16 points.
VIU Mariners 89
CBC Bearcats 79
The Mariners shot 47% from the field and held off the Bearcats for their fifth win of the season. Harry Fayle scored 29 points to lead the charge while Brett Christensen had 15. Tyus Barfoot scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds.
The Bearcats stayed close thanks to the 24 points from Trent Baker who hit five-three pointers. Chris McLachlan added 15 points and Gabe Mannes had 14.
