LeClair and Foston claim and Island win
Four PACWEST schools participated in the VIU Invitational over the weekend as a tune-up for the PACWEST championship at the end of the month.
On the men’s side Travis LeClair of the Douglas Royals shot a 73 in round one and was the leader heading into the clubhouse. John Jamieson of the Langara Falcons was second with a 75 and Alex Cordero of the Camosun Chargers and the Royals’ Andy Linn sat in third shooting a 77.
On Sunday in round 2 LeClair just barely hung on finishing with a 74 and tournament low of 147, one stroke better than Cordero who shot a course low 71. The LeClair win gives the Royals their first tournament win in recent memory.
As a team the Royals shot rounds of 314 and 318, totaling 632, two strokes behind the tournament winners the Camosun Chargers. After rounds of 325 and 305 the Chargers claimed the win with a stroke total of 630.
On the women’s side Mariah Netzer shot an 89 on Saturday and was the leader in the clubhouse, a stroke better than teammate and defending PACWEST champion Alex Foston. Natalee Okamura of the Langara Falcons was a distant third shooting 116.
On Sunday Foston took over shooting a course low 82 and claimed the tournament victory with a 172 total. Netzer finished with a 95 and 184 total to finish second.
The PACWEST teams will play this coming weekend in the Camosun Open at the Highland Pacific golf course.
