CCAA National Golf Championship Day 3
A challenging day for PACWEST golfers
Day 3 of the CCAA national golf championship wasn’t as successful for PACWEST golfers as Day 2 was.
On the men’s leaderboard PACWEST champion Daniel Campbell of the UFV Cascades shot a 72 and dropped into a tie for fifth place on the leaderboard. He’s six strokes back of Laurent Desmarchais from Boomerang d’Andre-Laurendeau heading into Friday’s final round.
Scott Merriam remains the best Camosun Charger at the nationals who shot his best round on Thursday, a 70 to pull him into a tie for 13th place. His cumulative score of 220 is six back of Campbell. Meanwhile All-Canadian Wyatt Brook of the VIU Mariners had his worst round on Thursday shooting a 78, dropping him into a tie for 20th with a cumulative score of 224.
The lone Douglas Royal, Dustin Franko dropped one spot into a tie for 26th after his 76 on Thursday.
On the men’s team leaderboard the Cascades are sitting in fourth place heading into the final round with a score of 883, just one stroke out of medal contention. They are 26 strokes out of first place.
The PACWEST women also struggled on Thursday, with the exception of PACWEST champion Alex Foston of the Mariners. She shot her tournament best 77 today and climbed to sole possession of sixth place on the leaderboard. All-Canadian Samantha Copeland of the UBC Okanagan Heat shot an 84 on Thursday and dropped into a tie for seventh place with a cumulative score of 248. That’s one stroke back of Foston, but 18 strokes out of a medal spot heading into Friday’s final round.
On the women’s team leaderboard the Heat are in medal contention sitting in fourth place heading into the final round, just four strokes back of the bronze medal. They are 27 strokes out of the gold medal slot. The Mariners on the other hand are 11 strokes behind the Heat.
