Mariners Golden Again
The VIU Mariners win PACWEST gold in 2025
VIU Mariners 3
Camosun Chargers 1
The VIU Mariners are women’s PACWEST champs for the 20th time in school history after an exciting four set win over the Camosun Chargers.
In the end it was too much offensive punch from Aimee Skinner, Megan Duffy and Regan Ingram who continued to pound points keeping the Chargers defence off balance all night long. Defensively the Mariners were also outstanding with the play of Duffy, Grace Brisebois and Grace Greene at the net, recording several blocks.
Skinner led the offensive charge with 21 kills* Duffy added 10* and Ingram came off the bench to provide a spark and finished the match with eight* and was named the Player of the Match.
The Chargers drew first blood with a 25-19 set win and had momentum heading into the second set. It was a very competitive set, but the Mariners evened things up with a 25-20 victory. From there the Mariners continued to find an extra gear and collected set wins of 25-18 and 25-18 to win gold.
Offensively the Chargers were led by Karynn Hampe who had 15 kills* and Erica Bolink who added 10*. Libero Paige Roslinsky was brilliant and really kept her club close with several highlight reel digs. So much so that she was named the Player of the Match.
The Mariners will now represent the PACWEST at the CCAA national championship in two weeks in Durham Ontario.
