The VIU Mariners are PACWEST bronze medalists for 2025 after a three-set sweep over the Camosun Chargers on Saturday afternoon.
The Mariners got their momentum early on and never lost it as they took down the Chargers with a balanced attack coupled with terrific defence at the net. They captured the first set 25-23, which would be the closest the Chargers would come this afternoon. They would win the second set 25-18 and finished off the match winning 25-22.
Max McDonald was outstanding on both sides of the net collecting six kills* and several blocks. His play alone changed how the Chargers offence would operate, and he was named the Player of the Match. Colby Soolsma as also a major factor leading the way with 12 kills* while Rylan Van Kooten added six and Kolton Rawlusyk chipped in with seven*
The Chargers offence was led by Lachlan Scherger with nine kills* and Liam Conlin was outstanding with eight kills*
Libero Kris La Guardia played in his final PACWEST match and was named the Player of the Match after a sparkling career.
The Mariners bronze is their first since 2016.
