Avalanche Make School History
The COTR Avalanche will play for GOLD
COTR Avalanche 3
Camosun Chargers 1
For the first time in school history the COTR Avalanche will play for PACWEST gold after an exciting four-set victory over the Camosun Chargers on Friday afternoon in a semi-final.
The Chargers took control of the match with a 25-16 win in the first set and looked more in sync than the Avalanche. They had balanced scoring and were able to force the Avalanche into somethings they didn’t want to do.
That said, the momentum started to shift in the second set. The score was much closer, but the Avalanche began to figure out the Chargers’ defence. That, and they started to feed Diego Policarpo!
The PACWEST Player of the Year was unstoppable over the next three sets and led his team to victory with 25 kills (unofficially), winning 25-23, 25-20 and 25-17. The Avalanche found secondary scoring as well with Ethan Braam out of the middle and Reed Grusing collecting some critical points in each of the sets while Boston Thiessen got his sets to where they needed to be.
On the other side, the Chargers stayed close thanks to Jake Bolton and Liam Conlin who had some big swings for their club. Kris La Guardia was outstanding in the backcourt out of the libero position.
With this win the Avalanche advance to the PACWEST gold medal match on Saturday at 8:00pm and they punch their ticket to the CCAA national championship with the Conference earning a wildcard spot as well.
The Chargers will play for bronze at 3:00pm on Saturday.
