#3 Camosun Chargers vs #2 Capilano Blues – Friday February 21, 1:00pm | WATCH HERE
The PACWEST volleyball championship will open on Friday afternoon at VIU with the first women’s semi-final as the second seeded Blues (12-8) meet the third seed Chargers (10-10).
During the regular season they met four times with the schools splitting the seasonal series. The Chargers won both matches at PISE in October, then the Blues won back-to-back matches at Capilano in January. Three of the four meetings were determined in the fourth set, while the other was a Blues three-set sweep.
They both come into the playoffs losing two-straight. In the month of February, the Blues have lost three of their four matches while the Chargers have split, two wins and two losses.
On the offensive side, this match will feature a pair of big swingers. The Blues love to set Nnya Mbaoma collecting over 250 kills this year and the Chargers outstanding veteran Erica Bolink and her 300+ kills in the regular season. This could come down to secondary scoring in which the Blues have the advantage with Abi Betker, Annika Kuznik and Sibby Bos able to provide offensive production to complement Mbaoma. The Chargers will need other athletes to contribute to take some of the pressure off Bolink.
These two teams last met in the playoffs in the 2022 PACWEST bronze medal match in which the Chargers won in four sets.
The winner advances to the PACWEST gold medal match on Saturday night while the loser will play for bronze on Saturday afternoon.
