Chargers Upset Royals
The Camsoun Chargers are back in the PACWEST gold medal match
The Camosun Chargers will play in their seventh straight PACWEST gold medal match after an impressive three-set sweep of the Douglas Royals in Friday’s men’s semi-final.
The Chargers used a powerful offensive attack led by a pair of rookies. Jacob Ringma was outstanding with nine kills, several blocks and digs to set the tone early for the Chargers. Setter Lucus Maffia, also a rookie was brilliant distributing the ball around the offence getting not only Ringma involved by Vitor Pereira who had nine kills and Eduardo Bida who had seven as well.
Saturday night the Chargers will play for gold against either the VIU Mariners or COTR Avalanche at 8:00pm.
The Royals quest for gold comes to an end in the three-set loss. They were missing the Player of the Year Matt Shand who was injured last weekend, tearing his ACL. Cameron Powell had a nice match as his replacement with nine kills and Ben Shand tallied six. The Royals will play for bronze on Saturday at 3:00pm.
