PACWEST Spotlight: Janae Bruinsma
The third year student athlete is making her first post season appearance
For the first time in her PACWEST career Janae Bruinsma of the CBC Bearcats is post-season bound.
For the past three regular seasons Bruinsma has been the most lethal weapon the Bearcats have had but she didn’t have a supporting cast around her to make a run at the playoffs. She once again led her club with 132 kills, 24 aces and 166 points of total offence, while on the defensive side tallied 139 digs and 10 blocks.
The Bearcats won a pair of matches this season and will be the sixth seed at the PACWEST championship tournament opening on Thursday. Bruinsma and the Bearcats will face the third seeded Camosun Chargers in a quarterfinal at 5:30pm and as an added bonus for Bruinsma in her first playoff, she’ll get to play it on her home floor. The Bearcats are hosting this year’s tournament and interestingly enough the last time it was at CBC the sixth seed won PACWEST gold.
Bruinsma talks with Ryan Watters about appearing in her first PACWEST championship.
