A semi-final clash between the Douglas Royals and Capilano Blues kicks off Saturday
#2 Douglas Royals vs. #3 Capilano Blues – Saturday October 25, 3:00pm | WATCH HERE
Saturday afternoon the Royals and Blues meet in a men’s semi-final with a berth in the PACWEST gold medal game on the line.
They met four times during the regular season with the Royals winning twice, and the teams played to a 4-4 draw in their final meeting on October 5th. The lone Blues win in the seasonal series came in their first meeting on September 14th claiming a 1-0 victory.
The Royals seem to be playing their best soccer coming into the championship tournament. They are unbeaten in their last four games and have outscored the opposition 12-8 since the calendar flipped to October with three of their six wins coming this month. Their offence over the course of the season has proven to be challenging to defend with several weapons that offer a balanced attack. Ayman Sahmuddeen and Andrew Kerr each lead the team with three goals while Keishean Francois and Matteo Falcone have chipped in with two. It’s impressive that 12 of their 20 goals this season have come this month as their forwards have found their scoring touch.
While the Royals have hit their stride, the Blues have fallen on tough times and limp into the semi-final having not recorded a win since September 21st. They have two draws over this span, but their offence hasn’t shown consistently and haven’t scored in their last two games. They have been outscored 11-6 since their last win and four of those goals came in one game…their last meeting with the Royals. Striker Sebastain Cirotto will need to rediscover his scoring touch after six goals during the regular season. He has been defended very tightly, so the Blues desperately need some secondary scoring, something lately that has been hard to come by.
The winner of this game advances to meet the Langara Falcons on Sunday afternoon to play for PACWEST gold and a berth in the 2025 CCAA national championship.
