The Falcons are Golden
For the first time since 2001 the Langara Falcons are at the top of the PACWEST
Langara Falcons 3 (win in penalties)
Douglas Royals 2
The Gold medal match got off to a quick start as Henrique Claros for the Falcons scores two minutes into the game. A bouncing ball in the box ended up with Falcons forward Owen Holscher who chipped it to Claros for a strike just outside of the Royals keeper Matthew Miller.
Two minutes later, Bilyard Alemu looked to respond with a long-distance strike that forced Falcons keeper Adriel Agcaoili to elevate and fully extend to make the stop.
At the ninth minute, an errant clearing attempt by Agcaoili bounced off a Royals forward straight to Lothario Milfrise, who made the second of his three saves in the half. A dangerous free kick from Royals forward Joel Badger made up Agcaoili’s third save of the half.
The Falcons scored again in the 29th minute, as Claros was sprung free for his second of the game from a long pass along the wing from Taynour Bashgahreh. Claros brought the ball into the box and chipped the ball over Miller.
The physicality picked up in the second half, and a free kick in the 64th minute for the Royals resulted in Sepher Irvani hitting the crossbar off a header.
The Royals found themselves down a man in the 72nd minute, as a tackle resulted in a red card for Jean Carlos Rodriguez. Despite that, in the 80th minute, the Royals cut the lead in half off a header by Corwin Schieck.
All five minutes of added time was needed, as the Royals had one last opportunity for a throw in, which resulted in a header by Luke Shackleton finding the back of the net to tie the game.
Extra time in the gold medal match proved to be fruitless, as the final match needed PK’s to be decided.
