The Douglas Royals are headed to the gold medal game after a shutout

Capilano Blues 0
The defending CCAA national champion Royals live to fight another day after an impressive shutout over the second seeded Blues on Saturday. The Royals advance to the PACWEST gold medal game.
The first half of the men’s semifinal was scoreless, despite multiple chances from both teams.
At the 32nd minute mark, Capilano had the chance of the first half, as league scoring leader Sebastian Cirotto took a quality shot from just outside the box. However, Douglas keeper Matthew Miller had to make a fully extended diving save to keep the score 0-0.
Then eight minutes later, Corwin Shieck had a chance of his own for the Royals, shooting the ball just wide of the goal.
The scoreless tie would be broken less than one minute into the second half, as Avi Alemu crossed the ball to the middle of the pitch to a streaking LJ Milfise, who cut in and squeezed the ball past Blues keeper Brandon Lecce. Milfise showed off his talents by celebrating with a backflip as that goal would eventually hold up as the game winner.
The Royals would add a second goal at the 62nd minute, as Luciano Keramen marched in from half, beat two defenders and kicked one past Lecce from just outside the box.
In the 80th minute, an errant Blues clearing attempt bounced off Keramen, landing with Sepehr Irvani, who kicked in his first of the game after just coming in as a substitute. This goal would prove to be too much for any hope of a Blues comeback.
The Royals advance to the gold medal game against the top seeded Langara Falcons and play at 3:00pm on Sunday with the winner flying to New Brunswick for the CCAA national championship.
