Playoff Time

The men’s PACWEST semi-final is set as the #2 Blues meet the #3 Royals with the winner advancing to the 2024 gold medal game on Sunday.

They met four times during the regular campaign with the Blues winning the seasonal series 2-1-1 with both teams scoring six goals against the other.  Sebastian Cirotto was a machine for Blues and scored four of the six against the Royals and led the Conference with eight overall.   Kaden Routley tallied the other two.

The Royals offence was led by Matteo Falcone who scored three of the six against the Blues and Luciano Keramen tallied a pair.  They will need to play a major factor for the Royals if they want to complete the upset on Saturday.  That said, they have been one of the hottest teams down the stretch just to get into the playoffs recording points in five of their last six games to put themselves into a position to clinch the final spot.  They come into the playoffs after a shutout win in the final game of the regular season.

Oddly enough the Blues inadvertently helped the Royals clinch the final playoff spot after beating the VIU Mariners last week and drawing a 1-1 final, stopping them from collecting critical points in the standings.

This will no doubt be a very close scoring game with the winner advancing to the gold medal tilt against the Langara Falcons on Sunday afternoon.  The winner of the PACWEST will head east to New Brunswick to compete in the CCAA national championship beginning November 6^th.
