Morgann Price scored late in extra time, the only goal of the afternoon as the No. 3-seed Douglas College Royals upended the No. 2-seed and tournament host Capilano University Blues 1-0 Saturday afternoon in the PACWEST women's semifinal.
Douglas had the run of play off the opening kickoff and almost opened the scoring with a flurry of chances that were turned away by Blues goalkeeper Megan Thitchener, who was shaken up with a ball to the face during the best of the Royals looks.
Capilano managed to turn the tide as the first half progressed and were awarded a penalty kick when Jacqueline Reinhard was taken down in the area. Capilano opted to have Alanah Dulong take the kick but her shot was stopped with a diving effort by Royals keeper Elisha Machado.
The game remained scoreless to halftime and both teams remained tight defensively through the second half as well. When nothing was decided after 90 minutes, two extra 15-minute halves were played which again produced no goals until the very end.
In the 118th minute, a high ball lofted over the head of the Blues' Sophie Pather and the Royals' Alicia Skirzyk turned into a foot race and Skirzyk got to it just in time to serve the ball across the front of the Blues goal and onto the foot of Price who made no mistake.
Douglas advances to Sunday's gold-medal match against the No. 1-seed Vancouver Island University Mariners. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
