The men's semi-final will see the #2 Douglas Royals face the #3 Capilano Blue
The PACWEST soccer championship opens today with the men’s semi-final between the second seeded Douglas Royals and third seeded and defending champion Capilano Blues at 12:00pm. WATCH HERE
These two teams met four times during the regular season with the Blues winning twice and the teams finishing with a 2-2 tie in their last meeting. The lone Royals win was a 2-0 shutout on October 5th.
In the four previous meetings there have been a total of nine goals, only one of them was scored in the first half. The Blues were led by the PACWEST leading scorer Adrian Sahagun who has three goals against the Royals while Burhan Waisy has lit the lamp twice against the Blues.
The keepers have been extremely busy in this seasonal series. The Royals Felipe Domingos has made 31 saves in the four games, while Nick Luongo has tallied 24. In their final game on October 6th when they finished in a 2-2 tie, the keepers combined for an incredible 25 saves.
The Royals and Blues haven’t met each other in the PACWEST championship tournament since 2017 when the Royals advanced to the gold medal game with a 3-2 upset victory over the two-time defending champion Blues.
