Royals & Mariners Off To Gold Medal Game
Two shutouts and the gold medal game is set
The top ranked Douglas College Royals women's soccer team punched their ticket to the PACWEST gold medal game after a 2-0 shutout of the KPU Eagles in the semi-final.
The Royals seemingly cruised to victory getting goals from Nicole Fraser in the 27th minute to seal the win and Danae Harding, who scored the eventual game winner.
Fraser was named the Player of the Game.
Goalie Emmanuelle Langr who got a rare start, did face pressure from the Eagles but stood tall, recording the shutout.
The Royals will now move onto the PACWEST title game facing the VIU Mariners on Saturday at 5:00pm.
The VIU Mariners women's soccer team have punched their ticket to the PACWEST gold medal game after a 1-0 victory over the Quest Kermodes in the semi-finals.
The game was a tight checking affair with Kermodes applying the pressure in the late stages of the second half, but it wasn't enough as Emily Rowbothan records the shutout.
The game's lone goal was scored by Madeline Dawson, scoring early in the fifth minute.
Despite being on the losing end, Quest's Gabby Villasenor was named the Player of the Game.
The Mariners will look to defend their title when they face the top ranked Douglas College Royals who shutout the KPU Eagles in the other semi. The gold medal game is set for Saturday at 5:00pm.
