The PACWEST Men's Provincial Soccer Tournament
The final four men's soccer teams are ready for the post season
The PACWEST Final Four is set for the 2015 Soccer Provincial championships for both men’s and women’s.
On the men’s side the Douglas College Royals (7-3-5) claim the #1 seed despite an identical record with the VIU Mariners (7-3-5) who finish with the second seed.
The Capilano University Blues (7-6-2) finished the regular season on a tear and won the third seed, while the KPU Eagles (6-5-4) finish with the fourth seed.
The Royals and Eagles will open the Provincial championship on Friday at 3:00pm in one of the semi-finals.
The Eagles scored six more goals (26) than the Royals (20) in the regular season, but also allowed seven more.
During the regular season the top seeded Royals had their problems against the Eagles. They tied twice and the Eagles won once. In their last match-up which was last weekend they played to a scoreless tie.
In the three goals the Royals scored against the Eagles this season Isaac Kyei scored two of them. Yassin Essa scored the other. On the other hand the Eagles scored five times on the Royals, Nawaf Binsaleh scored three times and Mateo Serka scored twice.
Both goalies Marc Minicieli (Royals) and David Hicks (Eagles) played every second of the three regular season match-ups.
The other men’s semi-final will see the Mariners and Blues battle at 3:00pm on Friday as well. The Mariners won all three meetings this season, outscoring the Blues 7-1 including a 4-0 shutout in their last meeting on October 18th. Andres Algarin scored three times against the Blues this season.
Scott Brown recorded a pair of shutouts against the Blues.
The lone goal the Blues tallied against the Mariners this season was on September 27th by Kristian Yli-Hietanen.
Goalie Michael Girard allowed all seven goals during the regular season.
Overall the Blues scored nine more goals than the Mariners, but allowed a staggering 24 more. The Mariners are the only team to allow under 10 goals this regular season and they allowed nine.
This Provincial championship tournament will be very interesting as both lower seeds outscored the higher seeds 49-37.
The winners on Friday will move onto the Provincial gold medal game on Saturday at 7:30pm, to try for the ultimate “trick,” a berth at the Nationals. The losers on Friday will battle for the Provincial bronze on Saturday beginning at 2:30pm.
