Bearcats Face Blues

The men’s side of the PACWEST championship bracket opens on Thursday when the Bearcats meet the Blues in a quarterfinal.

This is the first time in recent memory that the Bearcats are a higher seed and considered the home team in a playoff game.  They have an opportunity to knock off the defending Conference champions when they face the Blues on Thursday.

During the regular season these two schools met four times including playing a weekend doubleheader just two weeks ago.  Each team won twice during the seasonal series and one of those wins came in overtime.   The Bearcats two wins came with a 13.5-point margin of victory, while the Blues wins with 8.5 points.

The Bearcats enter the postseason winning three of their last four games and had a bye last weekend so should be well rested and prepared.   Their last playoff appearance was in 2007 when oddly enough they faced the Blues in the bronze medal game and won 98-75 on their home floor.

Last season the Blues won the PACWEST as the third seed and are looking to surprise fans once again this year.   They split last weekend at Camosun and have played well in the month of February winning four of their six games coming into the playoffs which included one over the Bearcats.

The winner moves on to face the top seeded VIU Mariners in the semifinals on Friday night.
