A Semi-Final Rematch
The Camosun Chargers meet the Capilano Blues for the second straight season
#3 Capilano Blues @ #2 Camosun Chargers – Friday March 3, 3:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s déjà vu all over again when the Chargers and Blues meet in a PACWEST semi-final for the second straight season.
The Chargers as the second seed earned the bye into this game as they did last year and came up against the third seeded Blues. They are hoping history doesn’t repeat itself on their home floor in front of their hometown fans when they meet the Blues this time around.
The Blues advanced to this semi-final with a 113-86 victory over the Okanagan Coyotes in Thursday’s quarterfinal. They shot an incredible 56% and knocked down 10-three pointers. Tyrone Asenoguan was lights out with 29 points and CJ Campbell added 21.
In the seasonal series the Blues took down the Chargers twice in three games, but they split the wins at Camosun, the site of Friday’s semi-final. Each game of the series was decided by seven points or less and that trend is expected to continue.
The winner will not only play for PACWEST gold on Saturday but will also punch their ticket to the CCAA national championship tournament at SAIT in Calgary. The PACWEST will have two representatives, which means the teams playing for gold earn the berth.
The Blues won this semi-final last season 82-74 shooting 41% with only eight players dressed. Asenoguan had 19 in the contest and now graduated Martin Bogajev had 21 to lead the way. The Chargers also shot 41% but had issues solving the quick defence of the Blues.
Friday will be very entertaining.
