Blues Upset Chargers
For the second straight season the Capilano Blues upset the Camosun Chargers in the semi-finals
For the second straight season the third seeded Capilano Blues knock off the second seeded Camosun Chargers and punch their ticket to the PACWEST gold medal game with an 80-70 victory on Friday in the semi-final.
It was a physical affair and the “bigs” for the Blues were ready. Zach Klim and David Featherston were simply outstanding combining for 31 of their 80 points and pulled down 25 rebounds. Klim was named the Player of the Game with 19 and 16 as he led the offensive punch. Veteran CJ Campbell picked his spots perfectly to attack and finished with 17 points while both Tyrone Asenoguan and Josh Dhillon each dropped in nine points. As a team the Blues shot 47%.
Meanwhile the Chargers shot 38% and just came up short in front of a good hometown crowd. All five starters scored in the double-digits, led by Cole Belton who scored 16 and Isaiah Romanow with 15 and was named the Player of the Game. Noah Helman played a physical game underneath and finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Blues not only will play for gold but have also earned a berth in the CCAA national championship tournament hosted at SAIT in Calgary as the PACWEST will send two representatives. The Conference gold game will take place on Saturday at 8:00pm.
The Chargers will play for bronze on Saturday at 3:00pm.
