Royals Comeback Playoff Victory
The Douglas Royals are off to the semis with a comeback win
Down by 10 heading into the fourth quarter the Dougals Royals complete the comeback and capture a quarterfinal victory over the Camosun Chargers 67-56.
The Royals didn’t lead the game until the fourth quarter when they used a press defence to confuse the Chargers to create turnovers and take the lead. In the end they shot 31% from the field and Karalee Antonie led the way with 18 points thanks in large part to connecting on three straight three-pointers to get the Royals back into the ball game. After not scoring a point in the first half, PACWEST Rookie of the Year Jenessa Knapp finished with 14 points and was near perfect from the free-throw line. Carmen Hiebert was also a major factor in the comeback scoring seven of her 13 points in the second half.
The Chargers go home with a heartbreaking loss. They led almost the entire way shooting 30% from the field led by Rhiannon Ware and her 11 points while Maddison Manns added 10.
The Royals will now play the VIU Mariners in Friday’s semi-final with the winner playing for gold on Saturday.
