The PACWEST basketball championship tournament opens the women’s bracket when the Coyotes and Falcons square off in a quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon.
The Coyotes have their best seeding in program history after finishing third winning three of their final four games down the stretch. They met the Falcons three times during regular season and swept the seasonal series averaging a 22-point win. They shot 41.8% from the field and First Team All-Star Jordan Kemper led the offence averaging 17.3 points a game.
On Wednesday the Coyotes had two players named First Team All-Stars; Jordan Kemper and Paloma Niz-Velazquez while Elizabeth Henne was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Andrew Gini named Coach of the Year.
The Falcons meanwhile struggled against the Coyotes press shooting only 27.6% from the field. Rachel Labrador averaged 12 points in the seasonal series. As a team the Falcons come into the tournament losing two straight but haven’t played in three weeks.
The winner moves onto face the second seeded Capilano Blues in a women’s semi-final on Friday afternoon.
